In my previous post, I mentioned a few things about people and trust issues. A lot of happenings or circumstances can bring a teenager to the point of having trust issues. It does not just happen in a day. It builds up gradually to a point that the person finds it difficult to trust a single person.
When I was in my mid-teenage years, something happened to me and it made me have a very strange misconception about people.
It affected my relationship with people because I always felt like people are the same and so, I easily got withdrawn from people. Even those who tried to make me their friends found it hard to cope with me.
I was distressed, unhappy, unsatisfied, fearful and all sorts.
Low self-esteem was an accompaniment. I always felt unloved even when someone was trying to love me, I was scared of being disappointed. I was scared of pouring out my heart to someone, I preferred keeping it all to myself or telling God about it.
It took God’s help and wise words from people to change my thinking then. It was when I opened up to God and people’s help that I started getting healed.
My restoration point was the day I came across ‘God knows and understands how I feel’.
I started telling Him about my hurts and fears. I told Him to help me discern who I can trust even though I know it is Him alone I can trust with my life and whole being.
God helped me and made me understand the more that God alone is trustworthy, reliable, dependable.
Man is bound to disappoint, no matter how much he tries not to. It is just a part of human nature.
Sometimes, they wish not to disappoint but it might not be in their capacity not to betray you.
Your best friend can betray your trust. Even your intellect can fail you, how much more someone else?
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
All that is needed is Godly wisdom in order to discern who is who and who you can trust with crucial matters in your life.
Put no confidence in the flesh, man is bound to fail.
It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.
Sometimes, expectations from a person would make one too depressed when disappointed. Expect that man is bound to fail so that when they fail you, you won’t be pained.
Take careful cognisance of the kind of people you open up to and always have it at the back of your mind that God alone is trustworthy.
