How to Maximize Your Gifts/Talents

A gift or talent is a natural exceptional quality. A gift could be inborn and one find ease in an area where he is gifted.

Something you acquire without much effort is a gift.

Everyone has a gift/talent. It can be something you do and others benefit from it. Some people have found a source of livelihood from their area of gifting while some do it for fun and nothing more.

Recognizing your gift or talent is the first step to living a fulfilled life. We all have a certain gift and talent, which means we all can live a fulfilled life.

Recognizing your gifts is not so difficult. In fact, they are things that are closer to you than you can imagine. Your gifts are right by your side. You don’t have to climb the mountains to know them. We find it hard to recognize them because we chose to ignore their existence around us. Recognizing your gifts leads to a more satisfying life.

To find out what one is fitted to do, and to secure an opportunity to do it, is the key to happiness.

John Dewey

You can maximize your gift by:

1. Acknowledging the gift

This cannot be overemphasized. You cannot use what you don’t know you have. Recognize and know your gift.

Your gift is unique. This doesn’t mean you are the only one that has this gift; it’s just that yours is not same as someone else though it is the same gift. You don’t have to necessarily have the same gift as someone you greatly admire. You might have the gift of singing a certain genre of music while someone else has his own gift of singing in another genre of music.

You should recognize your uniqueness in your area of gifting.

2. Embracing your uniqueness

Embrace and build your gift. Having a gift does not guarantee that you are perfect in it. It only reflects that you will be able to learn easily and improve on it better than someone who is not gifted in that area. Explore as much as you can. Technology has made it easier for you to broaden your horizon about basically everything.

3. Connecting with people who share similar gifts

Iron sharpens iron, and success is achieved easily when you move in the right circle.

You need to speak with people with whom you share a similar gift. Preferably, you should have a mentor. Research about people who had a record of success in your area of gifting and reach out to them for guidance.

As you improve on your area of gifting, always remember what Proverbs 22:29 says.

Observe people who are good at work—skilled workers are always in demand and admired; they don’t take a backseat to anyone. (HMB)
