For the 9th edition of the Leaving Prints On Hearts (LPOH) project, TMO The Gambia held its outreach at Joko Brikama, on Saturday, the 23rd of August 2025, with six passionate volunteers: Daniel Rotimi ben-Ajepe (Team Lead), Precious Wokoma, Blessing Eniola Taiwo, Blessing Oladipupo, Aja Mansata Bajo, and Kaddy Jarra.

Preparation

The day began with the team lead and a volunteer heading to the market to purchase food items, including:
- A 25kg bag of rice
- A 10kg bag of macaroni
- Seasoning cubes
In addition to generously donated items such as:
- Fairly used clothes, shoes, bags, and more
- 125 exercise books
The items were assembled at the team lead’s residence before heading out.
Challenges and Venue Change

A bus was chartered to convey the team from Serrekunda to a church in Joko Brikama, the proposed outreach venue. On arrival, the team was warmly welcomed by the associate resident pastor. However, we were not permitted to use the premises, despite prior approval from the headquarters.
In response, the team sought alternative arrangements. We met with the Alkalo (community head), explained TMO’s mission, and received a warm welcome. The Alkalo graciously provided an open community space, which became the venue for the outreach.
The Outreach

With the venue secured, the team announced that the outreach would commence in 30 minutes. Soon after, over 250 participants, including men, women, and children, gathered.
Food distribution and sharing of exercise books followed, with great excitement and gratitude expressed by the community. As supplies ran out, the team quickly purchased additional packs of spaghetti and rice from a nearby kiosk to meet the overwhelming turnout.
Closing Note
Despite unexpected challenges, the outreach turned out to be a remarkable success, reaching over 250 people in Brikama. The resilience and teamwork of volunteers in TMO The Gambia ensured that the mission of Leaving Prints On Hearts was fulfilled.

Special appreciation goes to the Alkalo of Brikama, our donors, and every volunteer who made this possible.
We would like to appreciate our TMO The Gambia volunteers and everyone who donated towards this cause. We do not take your support for granted.
