Happy Monday!!!
I hope this week brings goodness that gladdens your heart.
Growing up in a church that had a knack for the good ol’ hymns, I just did what every child did, I aimlessly sang along during the service. I never really had an understanding of what I sang/ All I knew was my mum would give me the “killer” looks if my mouth was not moving during the singing part of the service.
It was not until a couple of years ago when the church I attended as an “adult” had a preference for hymns. We even used the hymnals that had he music transposed and stuff. FYI, I still can’t read music. Anyways, it wasn’t until the last few years I started paying attention to the lyrics of the hymns. The tunes were definitely different but the words carried so much weight that although decades have passed since those hymns have been penned down they still carry so much meaning till this day.
One of the hymns that still brings amazement to my heart is Blessed Assurance.
The words are simple, easy to grasp, yet captivating.
Read this:
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.
Refrain:
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.
Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels, descending, bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
Perfect submission, all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.
In simple words, this hymn describes the hope we have in Christ. The assurance of a loving father.
I hope in this new week, you rest in the blessed assurance of the Father. Also, take a minute and listen to the good ol’ version of the song.
Until next week,
Stay blessed.
