MODESTY

Hi there,

Let’s talk about how we dress.

I know it’s not probably not the time of the year to talk about dressing.  Or possibly  we would say, what’s God’s business with our dressing?

He doesn’t look at dressing some would say. Another would say, God is after our motives, our inward thoughts and not our outward appearance. Yet another would say God cares little or less about our dressing and if he does at all, he doesn’t really pay attention to it. Okay there are some clothing he pays attention to and frowns at.

Hey! Stay with me.

Have we asked what modest dressing is? Let’s start from there so we can get the view.

Modest dressing refers to a fashion trend in women of wearing less skin-revealing clothes, especially in a way that satisfies their spiritual and stylistic requirements for reasons of faith, religion or personal preference.

In other words,  we should dress in such a way that we do not lead others to sin.

Most times, our dressing speaks far beyond what we intend, most especially in a society where its considered trend when you show part, if not most of your body, where they don’t care who is affected by their choice of clothing.

Proverbs 11:22 says, “Like a gold in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion

we are unaware of our worth, we can attract wrong attention to ourselves. We always don’t know if every little decision even choosing what to wear this morning can affect others, but Jesus said above all, love.

Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised

Proverbs 31:30

Someone who is not only beautiful but dresses in a less revealing manner has more to gain.

Clothings that God frowns at:

  1. Clothing that cause others to stumble
  2. Clothing that sends negative signals
  3. Clothings that distract people from the message
  4. Click that causes pain

And many more are in the list.

As much as you desire to be a part of ongoing trends, be a part of them with some sense of modestly and with class, dressing half naked would not attract responsible people to us. Modesty is a virtue. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
