How to Live Above as a Teenager

Every teenager has rules and regulations guiding their day-to-day activities, be it in church, home or school activities. I have come to realize that the society focuses more on those in their teenage hood than the adults by assigning “rules and regulations” to go by.

Although 75% of these rules and regulations have helped thus far and made us realize the stage we are is for building and nurturing ourselves but the 25% have really pushed us down to the ground, gave us a limit, made us sit on the floor, crawling when we can even run. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying the Rules and Regulations every teenager follow is wrong, I am saying we shouldn’t patter how lives to what we have always seen every teenager do.

A perfect example of these rules is “you are not allowed to have interest in any other curriculum activities, so you don’t fail”, and many other limiting rules.

At times, some of these rules have made us limit ourselves and reduce the giants in us.
Every teenager has his/her dream, but most times the society at large does not accept that dream of yours, they call it fantasies, saying you are too young to understand life, and responses like this end up killing potentials that could amount to something.

Basic Things to Know to Live Above a Normal Teen

1. GOD

He is the reason behind our existence; we can never do without him.

Psalm 100:3 “Know that the LORD is God! It is he that made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.”

2. Find/ know what drives you crazy

Yes, your passion. That particular thing that could make you go extra mile. That hobby of yours is not just a hobby, it is something that would make you an extraordinary teen.

3. Build a Godly character

We need to start exhibiting the fruit of the spirit Gal 5:22. The reason why some parents would never support their teenagers’ passion is because of the teen’s ‘Character’. A perfect example is seen in Dan 1:8

“But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself with the King’s rich food, or with the wine which he drank; therefore he asked the chief of the eunuchs to allow him not to defile himself.”

You would agree with me that these three Hebrew boys had a passion for GOD, this passion was not only by mouth, they were ready to go extra mile for GOD. The eunuch “believed” them because they had exhibited “a godly character” earlier.

  • How do you talk to people as a teenager?
  • Do you respect your elderly ones?
  • What would your classmates, room mates and friends say about your character?

4. Work on your passion

You can’t keep dreaming everyday, that you are in the wonderland, and you have made not made a step to walk the reality of your dream. We all have ambitions, desires; you know what you are good at, why don’t you work on it. The secret is, the day you start working towards achieving your purpose you have started living above the norm.

5. You need a mentor

You are not the first to do that thing you have in mind. There are lots of believers who have ventured into that. You need someone who would teach you, a coach. That is why we have parents, teachers, pastors, and elderly ones.

NOTE: You can’t  submit under anybody if you don’t have a good character, if you are not ready to work on your passion.

6. Improve your learning skills

Some of us are lazy, because you have a skill, you feel your academics is not important. Search all through the Bible, those who served God were extremely intelligent.

Dan 1: 17
“As for these four youths, God gave them learning and skill in all letters and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.”

They didn’t have it over the night, they worked for it, they studied God’s word, went to school.

Dan 1: 5
“The king assigned them a daily portion of the rich food which the King ate, and of the wine which he drank. They were educated for three years, and at the end of that time they were to stand before the King.”

Even baby Jesus at age 12, went to the temple to learn the scriptures. You need to read that book, that subject/course you are finding difficult. Improve your learning skills, get a reading partner, learn something new everyday.
7. The secret place

You need a prayer altar. You need to study the Bible. These two things are pivotal in everybody’s life.

  • How is your devotional life?
  • How is your relationship with God?
  • Do you find it hard to pray for 30minutes and you want to live above the normal
  • Your prayer makes you above; you don’t pray to him to give you understanding only in your academics, you pray he helps you to know him the more.
  • Study the word of God carefully, and you would recognize the plans God has in store for you.
  • You can settle your fear, disappointment, sorrow, future, dreams in the place of prayer. It makes a teenager intimate with God.

GOD + Your academics = EXTRA ORDINARY PERFORMANCE
In conclusion, the only key to help you live above normal is to GET UP, SIT DOWN, AND THINK ABOUT YOUR LIFE, THEN WORK WITH THE STEPS LISTED ABOVE.

Remain blessed.
