(My view about Easter)
It’s another season of celebrating the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ which is termed Easter.
Even though there are many with different views and opinions about this season, which varies from recognizing the days and its meaning to other things. I believe that the most important thing is to understand what it stands for.
Based on my minute knowledge of God’s word and exposure in Christianity, the season of Easter is to acknowledge the greatest sacrifice ever made by God for mankind.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 NKJV
I can say the Good Friday is the most important day in this season of Easter.
Some people only look forward to the feast aspect of Sunday and Monday.
I will be answering some questions I’ve once personally been asked as a Christian based on my understanding of God’s word in this post today.
- Why is today called Good Friday?
- What is good about today?
- Is today different from any other Fridays?
- Should we really bother about celebrating today or even the whole Easter at all?
Today is termed Good Friday because according to the Word of God (Bible), the very day Jesus Christ was crucified was on a Friday, so choosing today is a way of acknowledging and remembering that day he paid the greatest sacrifice.
The good about today is that on a day like this, Salvation was appropriated to all of mankind throughout the world, both for those who have believed and also for those who are yet to accept the free gift through the death of Jesus Christ, and to remember that the free gift is ever available till the end of time.
Today is in no way different from any other Friday, because as a believer the essence of the death of Jesus Christ is not meant to be acknowledged just for a specific time but all through the days of one’s life, because if we truly are “seeking for the things which are above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God” then we would not really have to wait till today to ponder on what he did on a day like today.
Some sect of Christians claim that one isn’t supposed to celebrate Easter because it’s not scriptural (meaning it’s not recorded anywhere in the Bible where it was celebrated).
For those who really know what it means to have been lost in sin and to have been found by such an amazing grace, they will know that Easter is worth celebrating not just for this long weekend but on every other day, because they will always want to do everything to keep their salvation. Easter is a way of celebrating the day a believer found the kingdom of God. Jesus gave a parable:
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
It’s another season of Easter and I implore you that above all things, check if you are still in the Faith, if you are, ensure you do everything to earnestly contend for your Faith because we are truly in the last days.
And if you are not, the death of Christ has still made available the way of life for you. Don’t let it elude you again. Reconcile with Jesus.
Easter is not all about feasting and merry but about reflection and commission.
You are blessed.
