The quest to make ourselves better in any and every facet of life is self-improvement.
Self-improvement entails being real to oneself. You have to be true to yourself if you want to improve on yourself. You have to be who you are to improve on yourself. You can’t pretend to yourself and expect to improve and be happy about yourself, you will only be deceiving yourself. Yes, no one is perfect and no one is above self-improvement.
Self-improvement is done out of love and desire to be the best you can be. Celebrating who you are and aiming to move forward steadily is what improvement is all about. A tree is not built in a day; it takes years of growth for a seed to grow into a tree. You can’t wake up in a day and expect all your ambitions to be fulfilled just like that. If it were that easy then everyone would be flying high by now, I guess. But, it would take you some days, months and years of patience, sacrifices and improvements.
All the heroes that have come and gone started somewhere, it was not an overnight or just a moment of thought and it happened. No. They took their time in understanding who they were, what they wanted to be and how they would get to their dreams. Meanwhile, self-improvement is not about comparing themselves to someone else or by trying to be someone else. They understood themselves and improved on that.
Ways to Improve on Yourself
1. Celebrate who you are now
What you are now is quite alright. At least you are somewhere doing something. You will feel bad and frustrated when you compare yourself to someone else. You have to be happy with yourself in order to improve on that self, else you would be building a frustrated circle around yourself.
2. Be disciplined
Self-improvement involves being disciplined. Disciplined in the sense that you steadily focus on your growth process. You have to be relentless. Push forward to know more, learn more, create more and overcome issues and challenges that may come your way.
3. Consistency is key
What you do consistently becomes a part of you and that’s how habits work. Likewise for your improvement, you have be consistent. Yes you might feel discouraged along the journey but remember when the road gets tough only the tough get going. Believe you can do it.
It’s not only the dreams that matter but the steps we take in achieving those dreams. Self-improvement is about building and raising yourself up to where you hope to be in the future.
