Deal With Your Heart

A beating heart is a sign of life!

The heart is a very important organ in the body because its existence is a sign of life in a person.

In our relationship with God, one thing we have to really commit to Him is our heart. Why? God is VERY interested in our hearts. He does not assess the facial features as man does, rather, he is a God that tries the heart and reins.

1 Samuel 16:7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

If you examine the Bible, you would notice that at times, it seems God had better relationships with some people than others. It all boils down to the state of the hearts of the individuals involved.

If weighed on a scale, you would agree with me that David committed more sins than Saul did, right? But then, why did God reject Saul because he disobeyed Him and received David even after committing adultery? It was a thing of the heart. If you study the life of David closely, there was one thing he possessed and that was “a broken spirit and a contrite heart”.

Psalms 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, though wilt not despise.

Oh! David had a contrite heart, he was not just forming humble facially, he was humble in his heart. He always quickly recognised his faults and went to God for forgiveness. However, I don’t recollect reading about Saul asking God for forgiveness with a broken spirit after he sinned. See ehn, whether or not you would grow as a Christian depends on the state of your mind.

God is closer to us when our hearts are humble than when our voices are loud.

One important thing we must know is this, God wants us to be like Him in all ways, our thought patterns inclusive. However, don’t forget that He says that His thoughts are higher than our thoughts and his ways than our ways.

Isaiah 55:8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

So, how then do we get close to thinking like God wants us to? By reading the word of God. Oh! How important is the word of God in the life of a Christian? The amplified version of the Bible calls the word of God, “God’s breath”, the word of God is LIFE and TRUTH.

The word of God sets a man free, it is only through the word of God that our thought patterns can be purified, framed and in sync with God’s thoughts. Let the word purify you and bring you closer to God and don’t forget this scripture:

Proverbs 23:7a: For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.

Stay blessed!

Always remember that God is concerned about the state of your heart.
