THE POWER OF LOVE: Greatest Impact on Lives

The word ’love’, is very powerful and important in human lives. Love began when Christ laid down His life to redeem us (John 3:16), which is the greatest love story (John 15:13).

The characteristics of love show how powerful love is. Love is kind, patient, full of joy, selfless, humble, with faith and endurance. Thus, love is the greatest of all (1 Corinthians 13:4-7, 13). Love is likened to God because of its powerful effect which is evident through its characteristics (1 John 4:16).

Love is demonstrated through its characteristics which gives great impact. God commanded us to love one another so we can make great impact and positively affect our lives (Mark 12:29-31, 1 John 3:11, 1 John 3:11).

Let me share with you a practical example of the great impact love can make on a man due to its powerful characteristics.

I once heard of the story of a twin, who both love each other but have different attitude and way of life.

Taiwo was a wayward boy while Kehinde was easy going. Kehinde on several occasion advised his brother to turn a new leaf, but he refused to change his way of life.

One fateful day, Taiwo was caught in a fight and managed to escape, unknown to him that he was followed by the police. On getting home, he explained to his brother what happened at the fight scene. The police siren in front of the house called their attention. Taiwo became restless and regretful about the fight scene, knowing that he killed his opponent as a means to save himself but who will ever believe that? He lamented to his brother. Kehinde, who was next to him trying to comfort him suddenly decided to surrender to the police, instead of his twin because he realized that his brother was yet to know the God which himself is acquainted to. He moved gently to the door while his twin who was still in a restless mood ran towards him to stop him. But all Kehinde said was ,”I love you brother, I will give up my life to save yours, let me be”. They hugged each other and cried; thereafter, Kehinde left to be persecuted and arrested for the crime his brother did as a result of the fight he got into in the first instance.

Taiwo decided to become like his brother so he can be free from any guilt of the past. In the process of turning a new leaf, he got saved and got to know the God his twin was acquainted to. He became an evangelist and now shares his story to others and preach the gospel everywhere he goes. “He gave up his life to save mine; what a great brother he is. This, I likened to Christ who gave up His life to redeem our soul; what a great friend He is,” he says to his new converts.

The love demonstrated in that story saved a soul for Christ, which is the greatest impact on lives. This gave way for positive impact in the process of being fulfilled. Thus, love is so powerful that it craves way for great impact and fulfillment. Love is fulfilling the law; the power love possesses help us to be fulfilled on earth through the display of its characteristics (1 Corinthians 13:4-7, Mark 12:29-31).
