Whenever I hear this word, I remember a particular incident which took place while I was in secondary school. It was at the heat of my school’s inter-house sport and a class mate of mine who was a high jumper was about to jump when his friend shouted “Be courageous”. Yeah, that is the word “courage”. Everyone laughed, but that incident taught me that Courage is a very important attribute for a teenager who aims to live beyond.
What does it mean to live beyond? If you are told “you have to live beyond”, I think it means that there is a particular limit you are to exceed, right? It means there is a boundary that you are to surpass, some expectations you are to outstrip.
In today’s world, there are certain limits that are set, they tell you “most teenagers don’t attempt to venture into that business, it is for adults”, “you can’t go beyond that, that is the norm”. They give you a definition of how you should live based on the norm, they tell you to just live like every other “normal” teenager. But then, why be ordinary when extraordinary exists? Why live within a limit when there is a life beyond?
Living beyond doesn’t involve just having an idea in your head, it has to do with bringing that idea into reality in a way different from the norm, it has to do with doing what others would not do because of the fear of failure or because of the size of the venture.
And for you to do this, you need courage.
Being courageous is having a quality of being confident and not being easily intimidated or afraid but without being cautious. As a teenager who wants to achieve feats and break boundaries, you must be courageous. On the way to success, there are thorns and obstacles and it takes only a strong willed, determined and courageous person to get there.
Another thing is fear, the fear of failure, fear of not doing it right, however, the fact remains that fear is real. But then, overcoming it is what separates dreamers from achievers. To live beyond, you have to do extraordinary things and fear is likely to be encountered, however taking your stance to stand out helps defeat fear.
Courage is not the absence of fear, it is acting in spite of it ~ Mark Twain
The fact that you are courageous doesn’t mean that fear is absent. It only means that despite its presence, you are not overwhelmed by it and your will to do exploits exceeds the fear of failing.
Another thing is this, a teenager who wants to live beyond must be ready to leave his/ her comfort zone. Yes, comfort is sweet, but it would make you complacent, you would be satisfied with living within a set limit.
You cannot swim for new horizons until you have courage to lose sight of the shore ~ William Faulkner
You cannot live beyond until you have the courage to leave your comfort zone and do something that requires extra effort.
As an inventor, Thomas Edison made 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb. When a reporter asked, “How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?”
Edison replied, “I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.”
This is to tell us that; “Success is not final, failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts”
Live beyond today!
