A Balanced Teenage Christian Student

A Teenage Christian Student is a believer in Christ who is also a college student. One who lives a life for God’s purpose, who fulfils God’s expectations for his/her life.

A balanced Teenage Christian Student is a person who keeps or shows a balanced life such that different aspect of his/her life exists in the equal and correct amount. That is, through the grace of God that has been deposited to strike balance and manage his/her life according to the purpose of God.

To be a balanced Christian student, what is God expecting from us?

Spiritual

1. Personal growth

Teenagers who study and meditate on the Word of God daily {Joshua 1:8} and has a consistent quiet time. Someone who develops a prayer life and fellowship with other brethren as in Hebrew 10:25.

2. Ministry

Teenagers who fulfil the command of God given to us all. To each of us, God has given a divine assignment (ministry) for bringing more soul to him. Therefore, if yours is teaching, he expects you to teach people his word and the godly way of living and if yours is singing, sing with God’s inspiration to people, and so on. He has also given us a common ministry, which is stated in Mathew 28:19-20 that we preach to all nations.

Academics

Luke 2:52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

God expects each of His children to increase in wisdom. He is not a failure, He definitely will not want his children to settle for failure or mediocrity. Your own part as a teenage student is to attend classes regularly, prepare adequately for examinations. Once you have faithfully fulfilled your own parts, depend on God to fulfil His own part for excellence.

Social

As a teenager, you are expected to interact with others. Do not be isolated, attend parties but at the same time, be careful of the parties you attend because the Bible says “evil communications corrupt good manners” (1 Cor 15:33). Apply wisdom in the freedom you have in doing things because Christians who tend to promote this freedom vigorously can sometimes fall into a loose lifestyle of undisciplined living. In doing these things also, we should be careful so as not to make other teenagers stumble.

Physical

In 1 Cor 6:19-20, the Bible records that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, therefore we are to take care of our bodies and keep them as healthy as we can. Be disciplined and careful of the quantity of food and drink you take in. Proverb 23:19-21. We should also exercise our bodies to keep fit and get enough rest.

Having a healthy and strong body helps us stay in shape so we can serve God better each day. Another thing God expects from us is to do the works assigned to us at the specific time. Let us learn to avoid procrastination.

Finally, God is not only interested in our spiritual life but He wants to be the controller of every aspect of our life and as such, we must realize that our academics are part of the platform to fulfilling God’s purpose for our lives. God wants us to stand out and shine as a Christian student so that people will see and give glory to Him.

Shalom!
