Questions Teenagers Ask About COVID-19

Have you ever imagined any of the Hollywood movies where there is a pandemic becoming real? How did you react at such imagination?

There has been a lot of commotion, panic, emotional turbulence, fear, uncertainty, and even rumours on the internet, since the outbreak of coronavirus, which has been renamed to COVID-19. COVID19 is a group of coronaviruses that started with an animal. When an individual is infected with coronavirus, symptoms will include flu, cold, cough, and sneezing.

While the rest of the world battles this virus, most teenagers are asking questions, wondering what is happening, and scared that the worse is about to happen like in some Hollywood movies.

Well, the worse is not about to happen, and the worse will definitely not happen.

COVID-19 virus caused a lot of uproars today and everyone, including adults, are scared and terrified. Like Tifehh wrote in her post, this is not the time to panic, rather listen and obey simple instructions from health experts.

Perhaps you are scared and you have a few questions on your mind to ask, this blog post is to provide you with accurate information.

1. Why are schools shutting down? Is this the end of the world?

Like I stated earlier, this is not the time to be scared. The Government in most countries, including Nigeria, have asked schools and public gatherings, like churches and mosques to shut down. They are shutting down because they are trying to prevent the transmission of the virus. Moreover, this is a global pandemic, and it can only be defeated when we all work together as one.

2. Can my pets infect me with COVID-19?

The Centre for Disease Control has stated that there is no confirmed case where pets transferred the virus to anyone. Albeit, it is important that you stay healthy and safe. Also, keep your pets- cats, and dogs- safe.

3. Can I hug my friends during this period?

No, you can’t.
If your friend probably has the virus, you can get infected when you come in contact with them. At this particular time, text your friends, do a video call, make some funny memes, spend time at home, while you enjoy the company of your friend on the internet. Avoid hugging, pecking, romancing anyone – the person might be infected.

4. Can I still go swimming?

According to public health experts, the chlorine level in most swimming pool will make the COVID-19 virus inactive. However, everyone is advised to shower before getting into the swimming pool. Also, the rails at the poolside, bathtub, and tap may be infected if an infected person has touched it.

5. What then should I do now that I am stuck at home?

This is the best opportunity to enrol for online courses, volunteer to write on a health website, read books, study your schoolwork. This is basically the best time to complete that course on Edx or Udemy, make that Youtube video, spend some time to have a personal retreat with God, and rest.

COVID-19 pandemic is not the end of the world, and if you are calm enough to listen to the advice of health experts, you will be fine.

If you have any question, please ask in the comment section. Don’t forget to stay at home, and tell your friend about this.
