Fashion, Style, and Attitude | by Toluwalase Ayomide Bismark

Fashion is a distinctive and often habitual trend in the STYLE in which a person dresses.

Style is all about Attitude.

Everyone can’t have the same attitude and dress the same. A gentle and shy person will wear things that suits him/her, like cool and calm colours. A proud person can dress to show off classic designs and flashy colours. Fashion is style and style is attitude.

The word fashion has so many meanings. It could be a character, attitude or a way of reasoning. While walking in a funny manner could be a form of fashion to some, cat-walking may be, to others. It basically depends on you.

Fashion has different categories, and not just on clothes as many of us think

  • Makeup
  • Accessories
  • Furniture
  • Building designs
  • Decoration
  • Colour sheds
  • Marbles
  • Footwear
  • Hair styles
  • Nail polish
  • Clothing, which is the most popular form of fashion

Fashion is something we engage in every day. Even people who say they don’t care what they wear choose clothes every morning that says a lot about them and how they feel that day. “Happy” or “Sad”.

Me, on a random day

This reminds me of how I look whenever it is my birthday; I dress real good, that you can tell it’s a special day as soon as you see me. Now, I’m not saying I don’t dress good and happy on a normal day, that day just has a special touch, and this brings us to the popular saying “dress the way you want to be addressed”.

Fashion Changes

Fashion has seasons and time. It revolves and it’s unstable. Old trend can return as new with just a little branding. So when I see people plait a hairstyle that has trended before, it doesn’t bother me and I don’t condemn. Fashion can always return. This applies to clothes too; the best thing is for you to know when and where to wear them. You are probably like me that do not really fancy the idea of trending things, it’s best you just mix your code of dressing.

For example, if stripe on stripe is the trending design and you like it but because it’s everywhere you don’t want to rock yours yet, you can always try to be creative. Wear your stripe on a different design; you can go for one with animal-skin pattern. Just make yourself unique.

Fashion, as said before, has a lot to do with who you are, it can totally describe your kind of person. The music you listen to, the videos you watch, the books you read and the people you interact with. Someone that watches movies that has to do with work and marriage will tend to dress the way the movie actors dress. Same applies to someone who watches high school movies a lot. One who listens to hip hop music and watches the video will also dress like the hip-hop musicians. The books, magazines, and newspapers you read can also tell your style or taste of fashion.

Fashion is like someone having a best food, if my best food is rice I’ll watch out for different ways of cooking it. So if you like a native dress, you’ll look out for different ways of rocking it in different designs.

Fashion is revealing. It tells who you are:

  • The high school fashion group: Preps, herbs, goths, skaters, nerds
  • The business group: Suits, Cooperate, Official, Agents
  • The household group: Married, Single
  • The society group: Religion basically (Christian or Muslim)

This may create stereotypes and distance between groups

For example: A business man might look down at a boy with a gold-tainted hair, multiple piercing, as a freak and outsider but to another person the boy is a strict conformist.

His dressing might portray a rebellion message but within his group, the look is uniform and dope.

We dress the way we do sometimes to protect ourselves from cold, rain, snow and so on. Geographical location can describe you. A person living in a sunny environment will dress differently from someone living in a cold environment.

  • Physical attraction: To inspire chemistry
  • Emotions: we dress “up” when happy and dress “down” when upset
  • Religious expression
  • Fashion is transparent, fun, confusing, and it never dies
