We define, every day, and virtually everything we do revolves around one definition or the other. In a way, we have our lives defined by different things, ranging from family, random people around us, and circumstances. Some of these definitions are perfectly okay with us, while some others are the unfortunate ones we find ourselves compulsorily doing, not on our own will. Either ways, there’s still a place of you coming in terms with the kind of definition you settle in.
Definitions give us something to work with, and we are more likely to settle within that definition. After high school, you are expected to go to the university, and an average person will assume you should think of getting married as soon as you have a university degree. While this is a good idea, it can be altered, but it has become a definition a lot of people now settle with.
As a teenager, you are told to live right and not get distracted by irrelevant relationships and peers. You are told what to wear; where to go and where not to; what’s wrong and what’s right for you. You are told what you can handle at a time, and what to let go.
You are told to make mistakes, that it’s perfectly fine. You are told to enjoy your teenage years by hanging out with friends and living your life as you wish, or perhaps, to be religious, to attend all church programs now that you have the ‘time’. You are told to take studies serious and nothing more; kick other things out of the way.
You are told to do THIS and THAT! To live THIS way or THAT way!
True, teenagers sometimes get fed up of these things, but they still find themselves living around that definition.
There’s already a template you are expected to live by, the ‘perfect’ definition of life. So, when a teenager does something extraordinary, like taking an extra mile from the definition, it is greatly celebrated. No one expects a random teenager to do such thing, because it was never in the definition.
While this definition is not bad in any way, there’s absolutely no crime in living beyond that definition! You are more than living within confines.
Stepping out of the norm doesn’t mean you must be wayward or do whatever you can to hurt whoever gave those rules you should live by. That’s not what it means to be exceptional; to stand out; to live against all odds; to be the icon many look up to. You don’t get to live your life shabbily. If you owe yourself one thing, it is giving your life your best shot; it’s yours.
What does it mean to be beyond definition?
Being beyond definition is choosing to be beyond what the world expects you to be. To cut off boundaries and dare. It is taking risks to see that your life’s worth it. It is not pushing aside the ecstasy that comes from dreaming big, all because you feel you are just a teenager who can’t do it. It is taking your dreams one at a time, and tackling them, because you know you can. It is taking off the limits like a robe worn over you, and going about with no limits at all. It is seeing that you can do and be what you wish to do and be.
This is what it means to be beyond definition.
