Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away. John 19:16
“As our substitute, he took the punishment due us and paid the penalty for our sin – the penalty of death”
Complete darkness covered the land at noon and continued for good three hours, it was not just an eclipse, nor was the darkness the result of heavy cloud formations, but the suffering of a unique man nailed on a cross.
He had left heaven into this world, what a great mystery of godliness. God was manifest in the flesh 1Tim. 3:16, and “unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given” Isaiah 9:6. There was never a day like it in all the history of mankind.
The spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set them at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord” Luke 4:18-19.
He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrow and acquainted with grief and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our grief and carried our sorrows, yet we did esteem him stricken. Smitten of God and afflicted.
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement of our peace was upon him and with his stripes we are healed. All of us like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquities of us all. He was oppressed and afflicted, yet He opened not his mouth; he was brought as a lamb to be slaughtered and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he open not his mouth. He was taken from prison to judgment and who shall declare his generation? For he was cut off out of the land of the living for the transgression of my people was he stricken. And he was made is grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death because he had done no violence neither was any deceit in his mouth.
“Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.” Isaiah 53:3-10
The voice of the Lord Jesus cried TETELESTAI? Which means it is finished. For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. 1 Cor. 6:20
PAID IN FULL means that once a thing is paid for, you never have to pay for it again. In fact it is foolishness to pay for it again. Christ has paid for your sin!
