At some point in life, you must have found yourself trying to work out the possibility of achieving the reality of your dreams even though you prayed to God about it. Though you have “Faith”, you still find it difficult to believe it will happen or maybe, like we try to disguise ‘you just want to know how it will happen’. You calculate and think of ways which God can answer your prayer. Sometimes, you try to understand how God does his things.
Well, it is not a bad thing but are you not doing it out of doubt and unfounded curiosity? Stop trying to figure God out! His ways are not your ways and his thoughts are not yours either (Isaiah 55:8).
Why are trying to help God think of how to do His business? Just trust Him and leave Him to do His business!
This is quite difficult to do especially when you are in situations with no trace of hope. Also, when we receive Divine Instructions to do things, we are always tempted to use our logic to justify these instructions and when they don’t look sensible, we are hesitant to do them.
Remember what Apostle Paul said when he was explaining the concept of Salvation to the Corinthians; “But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise….” (1 Corinthians 1:27). This implies that trying to figure God out is just a display of ignorance and foolishness because God’s wisdom is foolishness to Man.
Whenever we receive instructions from the Holy Spirit or we are waiting on God for something, let’s simply trust in Him and do whatever he says we should. Paul continued by saying “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him” (1 Corinthians 2:9). He quoted from Isaiah 64:4 and the last part in Isaiah’s words reads “…who act on behalf of those who wait for him” So wait for God. Trust him totally.
Our reasons for trying to figure God out, if carefully examined, will reveal that we are really not curious but we are not just sure of God answering us as fast as we want. Sometimes, we think He is just too slow and He does not understand how important what we asked is to us. Well, I have good news for you, God never forgot you, in fact, your name is inscribed on His palms. But He has an appointed time for all His actions, so wait on Him, your prayers will surely be answered.
We might be tired and frustrated from waiting, so, in desperation, we try to help God. Remember David and Uzzah’s encounter. Uzzah wanted to help to adjust the Ark of Covenant during the Ceremony to bring it to David’s City but instead, he was struck with death. So, David, out of fear, refused to bring the Ark into his palace again.
Sometimes, we have to examine ourselves and see if we are doing the right thing the right way. David was doing the right thing but in the wrong way and someone (Uzzah) died in the process.
Check yourself. Are you waiting with the right attitude? Don’t let tiredness deprive you of your breakthroughs. Hold on tight and keep trusting God.
So, when you find yourself trying to figure God out, remember these two things and they will help you get back on track:
First: God loves and cares for you.
The best verse to summarize the Bible states “For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten son so that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). This proves the fact that God is always thinking of you. HE will give all to ensure your safety and well-being. So, don’t let fear push you beyond what you ought to do. You are so precious to God and HE will never deny you an answer to your prayer.
Second: GOD will always deploy all His resources to help you.
He is the all-powerful, all-sufficient and omnipotent God. He is called these names because that’s who He is.
He sees the big picture; His view is all-encompassing, so if He decides to delay an answer, it doesn’t mean He can’t do it. There is a reason, beyond your understanding, for His actions.
The words of Thomas Paine gives an insight to understanding God’s motives sometimes; “That which we obtain too easily, we esteem too lightly. It is dearness only which gives everything its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price on its good”. So, don’t be hasty, wait for God.
There is a reason and a season for everything. Don’t jump ahead of your time. Obey His instructions not only when they are pleasing but also when they are not.
Finally, instead of trying to figure out how God is going to do His business, practice thanksgiving. Be like the Psalmist who will always remember God in all and whatever he may be passing through. Try to remember things in the past that God has done for you. This will help strengthen your faith and assurance that He won’t fail you. In fact, a heart of thanksgiving receives more and faster. So, once again, practice thanksgiving.
I will leave you with the Words of God himself which He said through the Prophet Jeremiah. These words remind us of the fact that He has our best interests at heart, so we should wait on Him and not try to figure Him out.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”.
Jeremiah 29vs 11(NIV)
Remember that God is with us, so do not fret.
We shall meet at the TOP!
