Holding On in Times of Despair

The Great Depression was a severe worldwide economic depression that took place mostly during the 1930s, beginning in the United States. Source: Wikipedia. But looking at this time we are in, I realize we are in a time of “great silent depression”. Depression is so real that we are gradually getting comfortable with it; some can’t even voice out and it’s been killing faster than before.

Just because someone hasn’t committed suicide doesn’t mean they ain’t depressed. Some, due to depression, have killed life chances, relationships, bonds, opportunities amongst others.

While walking home last night, I thought of some years ago when I used to feel so down and had no one to share my thoughts with, how a song I used to play kept lifting me up every time. Maybe it was because of the artist’s life story, I couldn’t say, but her songs always hit me and get me back on track.

The song is titled “Holding On” by Jamie Grace. I’ll share the lyrics with you.

Holding On

All the signs of life
They’re all around me with every heartbeat
I feel so alive,
I am joy and sadness,
Peace and madness
If only I can fight just a little longer
I know It’s gonna make me stronger

I just keep holding on to what I believe
Oh, I believe in you
Give me the strength to fight
And the heart to believe
When it’s hard to believe in you

Oh and these are the times when doubt’s tryin’ to creep in
And I need a reason that’s larger than life when hope seems hard to find
If only I can fight just a little longer
I know it’s gonna make me stronger

So I just keep holding on to what I believe
Oh, I believe in you
Give me the strength to fight
And a heart to believe
When it’s hard to believe
I’ll just keep holding on, holding on, holding on
Give me the strength to fight
And the heart to believe
When it’s hard to believe in you
Oh oh oh oh oh
When it’s hard to believe in you
Oh oh oh oh oh
Oh, I wanna believe

If only I can fight just a little longer
I know I’ll be stronger

So I’ll just keep holding on, holding on, holding on
I’ll just keep holding on, holding on
I’ll just keep holding on to what I believe
Oh, I believe in you
Give me the strength for the fight
And the heart to believe
Cause I’ve got to believe
I’ll just keep holding on, holding on, holding on
Give me strength for the fight
And the heart to believe
‘Cause I’ve got to believe in you
Oh oh oh oh oh
Yeah I’ve got to believe in you
Oh oh oh oh oh
Oh, yeah I feel so alive.

I hope you find the words relating to your present state of mind. You can add it to your playlist and even read Jamie Grace’s Story.
