My favourite Bible character is David. I love the guy so much.

The life of David as a young person is one which is worthy of being studied and emulated. When he was introduced in the scriptures, he was regarded as a man who the Lord is with, and this is very significant.

David was a hard-working youth! He was not the type to be found idle or doing nothing. He was a diligent person who took his father’s business seriously and did it with all his heart. No wonder, he went after the lion that came to steal one of the lambs and killed it.

David was not just hard-working, he was also skillful. He knew how to play the harp and was very good at this. It was this same diligence that brought him before King Saul.

Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.
And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.
Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him.

1 Samuel 16:16-18

Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.

Proverbs 22:29

David stood before King Saul and ministered unto him, as a result of his diligence at what he does. This same diligence was also what made him stand before the King again when he wanted to go out to face Goliath.

And when the words were heard which David spake, they rehearsed them before Saul: and he sent for him.
And David said to Saul, Let no man’s heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.

1 Samuel 17:31-32

And after this encounter with Goliath, he needed no more introductions as even the people acknowledged him.

Do you remember that David was already playing the harp for King Saul before he went out to fight with Goliath? And The king still had to inquire about him when he killed Goliath. Could it be that the king forgot that it was the same person who played the harp for him who also killed Goliath?

However, David’s consistency with excellence made a way for him and after that encounter with Goliath, not only the king but the whole of Israel knew David.

As a teenager, are you diligent? How seriously do you take your schoolwork? That skill of yours? What are you doing to hone it in order to become better? How consistent are you in all you do?

David was a Stripling as the Bible calls him, a young lad. However, he was not limited by his age or background. His brothers tried to intimidate him, but he was resilient and determined to excel despite odds.
