Maximizing Your Gifts and Talents

What does it mean to maximize your talents?

Maximizing, as defined in the dictionary has to do with expanding and making large a thing. So, what do we mean when we say maximize your gifts and talents?

We are simply saying, make good use of your talents and gifts in ways beyond you, affect people with what you have in your hands, don’t limit what you have been given by God. Use it for the good of mankind!

Checking from the Bible, reading the story of the three servants who their master gave talents to trade with; we can draw certain lessons from that story to use in expounding this topic.

From that story, we see three servants whom their master committed talents into their hands to manage. And one striking thing about the distribution of these talents is the fact that he gave to each according to his ability.

We might be tempted to just think that their ability in this sense refers to how much talent they can manage. In this case, it also refers to the kind of talents each of them has the ability to use well. For example, if one person was given the singing talent; another, a gift in writing and another, a gift in public speaking, this means that every one of them has the ability to maximize whatever their gift is and use it for the good of all.

That gift or talent that you have is not to be buried or hid. Rather, it is to be maximized, expanded and used to bless the lives of people around you and even the world at large.

Examining the servants who traded with their talents, it is important to note that beyond the gains they made, they also added value to someone or helped someone to make gains in the process of them trading their talents. Right? And for the servant who did not trade with his, but hid it, not only did he remain as he is, he also did not affect any life and his master was not pleased with him.

What would you do with the talent in your hands? What would you do with that skill you possess? What would you do with that inherent gift in you? Bury it? Or trade it?

Now, beyond using your gifts and talents to affect the lives of other people, there is a joy and fulfilment that you enjoy when you use whatever you have, for the good of others. You just feel good and accomplished! Also, there is a master who has placed that gift in you, and expects you to maximize it for the good of yourself, and the world at large. You don’t want to disappoint him, right?

Looking beyond having an inherent talent or gift that may be expressed naturally, there is a need for you to sharpen that skill. Don’t be mediocre about it! Take classes to improve, read books to help sharpen that skill, practise constantly and strive for excellence in that area!

Maximise your gifts and talents. There is a reward waiting!
