So many things are out there to deem our lights and keep us in darkness. But we need to stay illuminated. I understand staying filled with light requires work on our part but when we have reasons to, it becomes easy.
Here are some reasons you should stay illuminated.
1. We are in a “dark” world
The world is full of darkness, wickedness and all forms of cruelty. Before creation, we understand from scriptures (Genesis 1:1-5) that the Earth was covered by darkness until God said: “Let there be light”.
It’s interesting to note that God never eradicated darkness from the earth. Rather, he separated the light from the darkness. But darkness will always want to be recognized as long as there’s no light.
Hence, as God’s people, we need to be filled with the light of God to outshine the darkness of this world.
2. We are designed as the Light
The scripture in Matthew 5:14 describes us as “the light of the world”. That implies that as children of God, we were created as a source of Illumination to this dark world. We are designed to be a source of joy, peace, and comfort to the people around us, not a discomfort.
3. The world needs your light
When Jesus said, “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14), He meant that you have been created by God to be the light the world sees. Even a toddler in a dark room rejoices when he sees a glimpse of light.
Oh! What joy we give to the world when we simply shine our lights on. And we can shine our lights wherever we are: in the football field, school, market, office, etc. We can be the solution provider for the problems in our homes.

4. We need Illumination to make progress
Growing up, my mum always cautioned that we stay put whenever the electricity went off until an adult comes into the room with a light source. Literally, we can’t move or change our position in a dark environment for fear of stumbling on a dangerous object.
That’s the same way we can’t make remarkable progress in our lives when we aren’t Illuminated.
The speed of our accomplishment is a function of the light we have.
By light here, I imply the wealth of information and understanding we’ve acquired in pursuit of our set goals and dreams.
Thank God the year is still young and we have all the time NOW to learn all we can, build capacities, acquire relevant skills, pray and take steps towards the actualization of our goals. And we can only make progress when there’s enough light on our paths.
How do you intend to be the light shinning in darkness this year?
Your right
