Valentine’s Day and Being Single

It is that time of the year again! Love is in the air! Everyone expects to be showered with love a bit more than the norm during this period, and why shouldn’t they? It is Valentine’s season!

It is the season where several events take place – boyfriends propose to girlfriends, dad takes mum out on a date, gifts are shared between couples, etc. The “lovey-dovey” affair displayed during this season can be overwhelming, especially for the singles. You begin to ask questions like “Oluwa, wetin dey VALidate?” “God when?”

However, there’s no reason to feel pressured or overwhelmed during this season because you can as well spend Valentine as a single person and still have fun to the full!

Below are some ways to celebrate Valentine as a single person:

1. Spend Quality Time With You

With the kind of pace at which the world is going, it’s easy to lose one’s self. In this period, you can maximize the day by choosing to spend time with yourself, not just time but a quality one at that. During this time, you get to learn more about yourself – things you think you cannot do, and even think about what you are thinking about.

Remember: As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.

2. Appreciate Yourself

It is a lot easier to appreciate others for what they do or say to us but only a very few of us have learnt the art and act of appreciating ourselves. To tell yourself thank you for where you are, where you have been and where you intend to be is something you need to learn. How?

  • Take yourself out and don’t wait on someone to do that.
  • See a movie.
  • Get pizza and ice cream.
  • Get yourself a gift

In all, just choose to “spoil” yourself!

3. Engage in Voluntary Service:

As affirmed earlier, it’s the season of love and a whole lot of giving and sharing will be done during this period. You can join an organization or a church to donate items to people and give back to society. By doing this, you feel good about yourself. You can join the TMO Army as well.

4. Hangout With Friends

There’s that one friend you have always wanted to catch up with, this season is the best time to do so. Hang out with your friends and choose to relax all day long (well, that’s after school or work hours). There will never be another 14th of February, 2020. You might as well want to maximize the day.

Above all, remember that the measure of love you give is directly proportional to the measure of love you have for yourself. Self Love is not selfishness. It is totally okay to love yourself!
