How to Break Free from Fear

We all have our fears. Yes, we do (I am aquaphobic). Fear comes in many shades: fear of the unknown, fear of the known. Many times, fear grips us with its terrifying claws, it holds us down from what we ought to be, opportunities we ought to seize, people we need to connect with, new ideas we need to try, adventures we are supposed to embark on, new lands we ought to explore/conquer. Unfortunately, everybody would rather play safe than take any risk.

I would say that being bold or fearless doesn’t mean eliminating fear or there’s complete absence of fear. It simply means you know how to leverage fear. We get scared because of what we imagine could happen which at the end of the day results in chronic anxiety about nothing, really.

When fear is overwhelming, you tend to experience fright. And if one lives continuously in fright, it can lead to depression and hopelessness.

I have put together the following tips to help you break free from fear:

1. Accept Your Fears

Embrace your fears, don’t shy away from them, get comfortable with your fears. This might not come easy But with more courage, time and experience, you get built up and know how to leverage when faced with a fearful situation.

2. Never Dwell on the Negativity Around

Let positive thoughts dominate your heart. Even in the midst of your fears, choose to hold on to positivity. “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he” Sometimes, fear gets so real that it becomes scary but never allow your mind dwell on these. Conquer your doubt. Moreso, your mindset really matters. If you want to live a bold life, do not dwell on the negativity around.

3. Don’t Give Attention to Fear

The more you give attention to your fear, the harder and stronger it gets to you. Instead, channel your energy to things that trigger boldness in you. You may need a close friend, family member, mentor or someone who has experienced something similar for encouragement. Don’t hold back, ask for help.

4. Revisit Your Victories

Always remember and tell yourself when faced with any fear “If I could come out of those past awful situations, this won’t be an exception too”. Encourage yourself through your past victories. Be encouraged!

Courage leads you to win battles everyone may lose.

5. Plan For Success Always

When there is adequate preparation for success, there would be hardly any chance for fear to creep in. You will be full of confidence.

Conclusion

Be bold enough to use your voice, brave enough to listen to your heart, and strong enough to live the life you have always imagined.

Do not fear your fears, don’t be scared of failing or making mistakes.

People who make no mistakes lack boldness and the spirit of adventure, they are the brakes on the wheels of progress.
