Chocolate… Hmm, Yummy! How sweet this sounds in the ear. Are you craving it right now? Of course, I got the picture of chocolate flashed into your memory. It’s so sweet to have you on board.
Success is what we all crave for in life. Success is quite relative to everyone. Success is a point where we find fulfillment. Life becomes easier when we find fulfillment in who we are, what we do and what we have accomplished.
Many young people crave for success; they want to be successful. They want to see themselves at the top of a ladder of greatness visualized in their mind. However, there are no successful people without great habit. At one point or the other, they cultivate some habits in their lives to make them better persons. They never turned these habits to their destiny but as a guide to who they want to become.

Mediocrity gets formation through the kind of habits we cultivate. Successful people are not mediocre. Bad habits like procrastination, laziness, or overeating can birth a mediocre out of us.
I don’t mean to say bad habits automatically change to good ones once we are ready for the change. Bad habits can be curbed through a conscious and consistent process. For example, a bad habit like picking your nose. You can’t pluck off your nose, you can only pretend not to be tempted to pick your nose.
Ignoring those bad habits can go a long way; they may be right there in your presence, staring at you. What would you rather do?
I have some tips for you on how to cultivate habits of success. And here are five tips we will be discussing in this article:
1. Inspire yourself
Habits are what you do on a regular basis. You have a way of observing your habits, consciously or unconsciously. They are part of you. Let’s take for instance: you want to be a straight A’s student, what do you do? Get yourself inspired first. Do you know about those friends who have the same like mind with you? Those students who talk about the same things you are passionate about? Get along with them.
Some of us want to cultivate the habit of reading.
If we must make it work, we must first inspire ourselves. Be surrounded by habits you want to cultivate.Tweet
If you want to be a Reader, be surrounded by books. If you want to be a Musician, be surrounded by music. If you want to be a Computer-guru, be surrounded by computer. If you want to learn a skill, be surrounded by pictures of your desired field. It will help you condition your mind and it will send some messages to your unconsciousness.
2. Crave it
Cravings drive habits. Through craving, new habits are formed. While I was reading through the book ‘The Power of Habit’ by Charles Duhigg, I saw how Claude C. Hopkins in 1900 transformed a disputable product (tooth-paste) into an indisputable one and Pepsodent became a fast-selling product. How did this happen? The CRR method was put into practice: where the C stands for Cue, R stands for Routine and R for Reward.
If you want to read for two hours at a stretch, get a cue like sitting on your favourite chair and get yourself rewarded after some minutes of routine by giving yourself some bite of chocolate. You crave for chocolate, right? Get yourself rewarded.
3. Spice up your Virtue
The Oxford dictionary defines virtue as ‘a particular manifestation of moral excellence in a person’.
You have to understand interdependence also. Any habit in you that is unattractive to people have to be curbed. Some are fond of the habit of frowning their faces, but unfortunately, they do this unconsciously. Add spice to yourself, smile, interact, be kind, be honest, be humble and be yourself.
…whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.Philippians 4:8
You will be happy; you will find joy in observing the right habit when you spice up your virtue.
4. Believe in Yourself
Believing you can overcome bad habit can help you. Believe you will be fine even when you are without a bad habit. Believe you can drive yourself off from what is affecting your self-image. Believe you can relinquish bad habits and you will.

Never underestimate the power of prayer. Prayer is a means to get God involved in our actions. In the course of praying, we share our mind with God, we are relieved of heaviness in us.
Successful personalities in the Bible like Daniel cultivated habits of success. What did he do? He prayed. He was regarded as a man of wisdom and excellence and he could not conform to some secular habits at his youthful age. He fell under the category of young people without blemish, virtuous, skillful in wisdom, knowledge, science and language, according to the Bible.
The golden rule of habit says you can’t extinguish a bad habit, you can only change it. Now is the era of change, won’t you be glad to be part of this change?
After reading this, what do you intend to change about yourself?
