5 Ways Teenagers Can Avoid Sexual Activities

A week after I returned from a sexual purity outreach, the lockdown in most institutions began, and I remember having a burden in my heart about the number of children, and teenagers that would be victims of sexual abuse this period.

I remember telling my close friend about it, and asking her to pray for teenagers around her, and also write about it. Recently, I realized that most teenagers would not necessarily be “violently abused” as it looks, but rather manipulated, and lured into sexual acts.

I woke up on Sunday morning to see a particular trend on Twitter. It was a trend that sprang up after some sexual activities happened on social media. As much as a lot of people have different stands on this issue, I realize that I need to tell you some things, and that is why I am writing this to you.

I do understand that in the spirit of boredom, you may be tempted to join some WhatsApp groups to get jokes or videos, not considering if those videos are godly. I have come to realize that in the absence of task, work or responsibilities, you may be forced to go into a wrong or unlawful act. Unlawful acts like pornography, masturbation and sex chatting.

Let me break this down.

You like someone, the person likes you, but they want you to send nudes and do some nasty things. As a matter of fact, this person sends you some illegal, and adult-rated videos. This person is simply luring into sin, and if you are not careful, you will get addicted, and have problems coming out of it.

Do not allow anyone to deceive you. Anyone who asks for your nudes because they love you is not worthy of your friendship, talk more of a relationship.

What then should you do?

1. Have a social media detox

Who do you follow on social media?

Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?

II Corinthians 6:14

Not all celebrities, business mogul, musicians, or thought leaders are Christians. While it is not a bad thing to follow unbelievers to learn from them, it is wrong for you to be yoked to their lifestyle or point of view.

A funny trend started, and you may be tempted to get into a nudity challenge because it is your favourite artist. My dear, calm down.

Take a deep breath, and ask yourself the following questions:

  • Is this person my parent?
  • Has this person ever helped me?
  • What are the valuable things I have learnt from this person?
  • Is there a chance I can learn this same thing I am learning from this person somewhere else?

Be sincere with yourself as you answer these questions. When you are done, unfollow that person if they don’t help you stay sexually pure.

2. Be mindful of the friends you talk to

Don’t ignite a fire you can’t quench. Don’t get talking to that boy, or girl in your class because they make you feel mushy mushy.

The righteous should choose his friends carefully, For the way of the wicked leads them astray.

Proverbs 12:26

Are your friends also conscious of your value, belief and all that? It’s best to spend time with friends that have the same belief as yours this period. Stay away from friends who make you feel sorry for doing the right thing, or feel left out because you don’t have a relationship.

3. Be wary of the wolves in sheep clothing

There will be lots of people around who would most likely come to you in the name of helping you but they just want to lure you into sexual acts.

Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.

Matthew 10:16

Don’t accommodate any form of sexual conversation from the opposite sex. Don’t allow anyone patronize you because of your TikTok videos.

4. Have an accountability partner

I have lots of accountability partners, people I am accountable to. There are all my friends, and they watch my back.

The righteous should choose his friends carefully, For the way of the wicked leads them astray.

Proverbs 12:26

5. Feed on the word of God

This can never be overemphasized, the word of God is important. It helps you live successfully in these trying times. The word of God will make you stand firm, renew your mind, strengthen your heart.

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Ephesians 6:17

My dear friends, I would not want you to leave this pandemic with guilt, addictions, and a heavy spirit. You can beat against your fleshly desires with the word of God.

I love you, always 💓.
