Studies have proved to us that staying healthy helps to keep fit and perform well in the day to day activity. Living a healthy life is important. To live a healthy life, start developing healthy habits. It teaches you to learn and eat the proper kind of meal.

A person with good habits is likely to have self-control and does not indulge in self-destroying habits. You don’t have to overhaul your diet and exercise routine in order to become healthier. You can live a healthier life by making small, simple tweaks to your everyday routine.

Healthy habits are hard to develop and often require you changing your mindset of “only the rich can live healthily”. Even the rich are at high risk of living an unhealthy life. You may want to ask how, but that’s an article for another day. This write-up is for no specific set of people whether rich or poor, it’s a simple daily health habit for all.

Healthy living to most people means both physical and mental health are in balance or functioning well together in a person.

Here are some quintessential habits that can be adopted by everyone to live a healthy life;

1. Drink More Water

To become active in your day to day life, it’s important that you take more water. Studies show us how taking water frequently helps maintain the balance of body fluids. It also helps to control calories, keeps you hydrated and gives you good looking skin. It helps to eliminate toxins from gastrointestinal tract. It helps you to stay refreshed all day long and maintain a healthy heart rate.

2. Consistency with Breakfast

Studies have shown that eating breakfast helps to build your immunity, give you better memory, prevent overweight. If your body doesn’t get that fuel from breakfast for the day activity, it will feel zapped of energy and you will most likely overeat during the day which can constitute to adding weight.

3. Exercising Regularly

Regular exercise helps to maintain your weight and helps you to keep fit. The following are the benefits of regular exercise:

  • It increases energy level
  • It improves muscle strength
  • It improves brain function
  • It improves heart rate
  • It enhances the immune system

Being fit helps to reduce your risk of breast cancer, colon cancer and other types of cancer. Exercise not only makes you fit but also improves your mental well- being.

4. Take Fruits

The importance of fruits cannot be overemphasized in our day to day life especially for those with a hectic and tight schedule. If you are in this category of people with a hectic daily life, then fruits should be part of your daily food. Hunger can make you slower, grumpier, and more prone to mistakes and trust me, you don’t want to be found making mistakes in school or at work.

You need something that will boost your immunity well enough to carry out your day-to-day life even without food. Fruits are the right choice for you instead of feasting on junks and carbonated drinks. why don’t you just grab something like banana and boost your brain? Fruits contain a large and varying range of nutrients that may be hard to get from other areas of diet and without these, the body is at increased risk of getting diseases or functioning improperly.

5. Quality Sleep

We have so many demands on our time; we have school to go, works to attend to, family, errands and so on. To fit all these things in our time, we sacrifice our sleep. Research has made us realize that inadequate sleep affects both mental and physical health.

Daily, we need sleep of about 6 to 8 hours, but looking at the system of the world today especially this part of the world (Nigeria) where sleeping that long might even tell on you, apart from the fact that you have a lot of things to attend to. But what matters is that you find out how much sleep you need and then try to achieve it.

Don’t deprive yourself of adequate sleep so as to function properly. Sleep obviously helps to boost your brain and make you relaxed. It is one of those ways you can boost your immune system.

6. Eat Healthy Foods

Most times we don’t pay attention to what we eat, we just eat anything we feel we can eat. Most people don’t even know the difference between healthy food and those that are unhealthy.

An easy hack to eating healthy food is to cook at home. Most of these restaurants add more salt, sugar and flavor to their meal. But when these meals are made at home, you can have control over the quantity of salt and sugar you add to your food.

Healthy foods help to build your immune system and prevent sickness but if most of what you feed on are mostly junk that will not add any nutrient to your body and you are liable to any kind of disease. You don’t need to break a bank to eat healthily but the little you have you can still make a good meal out of it. Less of fatty and cholesterol meal but you can include more vegetables. Cultivate a habit of eating a balanced diet. Your diet does not necessarily need to be an expensive one but with the little you can afford, you can make a balanced meal out of it.

7. Meditation

This is actually the most essential daily habit we need to inculcate and this same habit is what most people don’t see the importance. We take the time of meditation as a spiritual thing but we can include it in our daily habit.

Meditation is self-observation, it helps to develop your concentration ability, clarity, emotional positivity and helps to calm. Meditation involves you being alone for a period of time and spending quality time reflecting about your life. Don’t worry about depth or how to do it, just focus on building the habit. This habit helps a lot and it’s a wonderful habit one must inculcate in everyday life.
