How to Maximise Your Time

Hip! Hip! Hip! Hurray!!!

We all shouted as the celebrant cut the cake with a bright candle on it. We sang birthday songs too. Her dimples were indeed good to behold.

Almost everyone celebrates a birthday as we consider it a way of appreciating God for previous years.

It’s never ceased to amaze me how quickly time flies.

A year is made up of 365 or 366 days in a leap year. There are 31536000 seconds in a year. These include those seconds spent blinking, daydreaming, eating and going about our individual daily activities.

These minutes to seconds are what constitute a year which brings about an increase in age but not necessarily productivity and living a life of purpose.

In Biology, it is believed that a cell is the structural and functional unit of life. Collection of cells make up a tissue. Collection of tissues form an organ while a system consists of many organs.

In the same vein, time is the cell of life. It is the fundamental unit of life. Increase in age means a celebration of the passage of time. Just as the function of an organ is determined by the cell it consists of, in the same way, a person’s life is a function of what he or she has been doing with time.

Life will make more meaning when we consider time as being the building block of our lives.

Hence, the need to maximize time.

Below are some of the ways to maximize time

1. Plan a day ahead

Planning a day ahead will help us know the tasks we ought to do and the steps to take to achieve them. Writing out a plan of how a day will go will give us a sense of purpose.

It also makes us mentally alert to explore what life has got to offer. A planned day creates room for more things to be done which equates a fulfilled day if diligently followed.

2. Prioritize your daily activities

Have a scale of preference; a list of unfulfilled wants to be arranged in order of their significance. When we determine what is more important, we will be able to organize all our priorities thereby doing the important activities first.

3. Stick to your plan

It is not enough to make plans, the important thing is to achieve them.

Therefore, we need to make a decision to stick to the plans made. A planned day, if followed with discipline, brings a sense of fulfillment. Except in cases of emergency, make the decision to live each day by the plan.

4. Avoid procrastination

Procrastination is a thief of time. Nothing steals time more than procrastination. We are sometimes quick to allocate what we should do today till the next day. However, some things can never be done again because every day has its tomorrow.

Time is one of the resources given to us by God to spend on earth.
Remember you are in charge.

I will close with the words of the legendary boxer, Muhammed Alli, ‘Some live to count days while others live to make their days count’

As much as it lies within you, I implore you to make life count by maximizing time.
