The Journey of 5 Years and a Rising Army

TMO Army

“Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.”

Henry Ford

TMO is 5 years old today. Wild, isn’t it? What started as a simple website with scanty content from a 19-year-old’s room has today impacted tens of thousands of teenagers on and off the media.

Nothing seemed right when it all started. The dots weren’t connecting and there’s a limit to how far ahead you can look before you call it quits and bring yourself back from fantasy to reality. But no one ever achieved a thing by staying still and doing nothing. At the end of the day, to make your dream come alive, you have to hit that green button and get on the move.

Sadly, making that tough decision to start doesn’t just end there. You realize you need someone; you need people; you need a community or a tribe; you need an army. These ones hold your hands and walk with you because they see what you see and believe in that passion that fueled you to make the first decision.

It’s been 5 years and I’m forever thankful I found my army. I found people who believed in me and the vision God planted in me and said “let’s hold hands”. I found people who trusted me to lead them for five years. I found over a hundred people to stay and work with me. TMO Army is undoubtedly one of the best things to have happened to me and I’m so thankful to each one of them.

It never made sense…

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.”

Steve Jobs

Many things did not make sense from day 1 but as this popular quote rightly points out, you can only connect the dots looking backwards. We’ve made some adjustments here and there in TMO in the last five years and even took a big leap to change our global name from Teens Meet Online to Teens Meet Outreach.

It’s been a pretty long ride. Wild. Beautiful. Crazy. Exciting. A roller-coaster, if you may. But every passing year, we gain more clarity on what this is about, what to do, and where we’re headed.

“You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever”. For me, that’s God; started with Him, continuing with and in Him. As the Founder and Director, everyone looks up to you to make decisions and have the final say. That will always be a huge responsibility and for every decision I make or refuse to make, I’ll have to deal with the consequences.

Only God could have carried us through and I dare say He helps us make the best decisions, all of which led us here.

What We Have Achieved

It’s never been about just the numbers for us. Every single person who has contributed to TMO or has benefitted from it matters. So, be it one or a thousand, the truth is that at least one life was impacted and that’s worth everything.

But we also have the numbers. It tells us how far we have come, how wide we have covered, and how much more work there is to do. We keep records and document everything on this website.

The Rising TMO Army

TMO Army

Our people are our greatest asset.

There’s a limit to how far you can dream. A limit to how well you carry your vision. To expand, explore, and do more, you need people.

TMO Army is a blessing. For every time they showed up for a meeting; for the times they led their teams and projects so well I didn’t have to intervene; for when they went all out for our outreaches; for everything. I’m super thankful to them. Those numbers we pulled off up there wouldn’t have been possible without a team pushing the ideas to reality.

Everyone needs somebody. For TMO, there’s an entire army and because of that, we are confident of how much more we can achieve in another 5 years from now.

We’ve had volunteers get into international fellowships and recently, one got a scholarship to study in a university. They all leveraged their experience in TMO to achieve that and it’s beautiful to see these results.

You need someone; you need people; you need a community or a tribe; you need an army. These ones hold your hands and walk with you because they see what you see and believe in that passion that fueled you.

What’s Next?

The fifth edition of Leaving Prints On Hearts – LPOH is happening this month in FIVE locations. We have the LPOH outreach annually in line with our anniversary to reach out to the community and we have done so consistently in the last five years.

We will like you to partner with us in this edition and future events to help us reach more teenagers in Nigeria, The Gambia, and beyond.

Thank you for your continued support all these years. I know a few people who have stayed with us and supported us from day 1 even though they are not officially in our team. We see you and we appreciate you so much.

I hope the coming years are gracious to us as we trust God to lead us all the way.

Happy 5th Birthday, Teens Meet Outreach/Online! Thank you for thriving.

Best,
Oluwatosin Faith Kolawole (TeeFaith)
