7 Acts of Love

We hear about love everyday and how important it is to express Love every moment. However, Love is never just about words but also about putting it into action. Below are 7 ways you can express love to others.

1. Be patient with others

Accommodate people’s differences. When you understand and put to mind that people are different and won’t always act like you then it would be easy to express love to them irrespective of their annoying attitudes.

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other.

Colossians 3:12-13

2. Be generous/Show acts of kindness

To be generous is not limited to material things alone. A generous mind is a kind mind that puts others first always. Not selfish and is on a lookout for the good of others. Being generous means living with an other-focused, self-sacrificing spirit. It means living with kindness, encouraging others, and offering our good works to one another.

Therefore encourage one another and build one another up.

1 Thessalonians 5:11

3. Forgiveness

When we are hurt, it’s tempting to reserve a secret place in our hearts to nurture bitterness, even long after apologies have been exchanged. And while it may be necessary to change or even break off relationships, true forgiveness sets us free and brings us closer to the Lord.

Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgiveness is the path to wholeness, it is an act of love.

Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

Colossians 3:13

4. Keep your promises

Living a life of truth is one of the most concrete ways to show God’s love to those around you. But that requires more than just honesty. It means keeping your word.

It shows respect for truth and serves those around us by building trust in relationships. It takes a true act of love to consider our words and actions so deeply before we choose to speak. If you won’t be able to keep the promise, it’s best you don’t pronounce it.

5. Obedience

A loving heart obeys laid down instructions, rules and regulations. Obedience to authority is crucial in expressing love. A leader or the person in authority feel secure having obedient followers.

5. Sacrificial

An act of love and service to others is being able to sacrifice. A kind of love that is not ready to sacrifice is not real love. Love is able to sacrifice for others at the expense of his own needs.

6. Giving

True love gives. A kind of love that does not have an attitude of giving isn’t love at all. In every expression of love, someone is always giving something.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:16

No matter how little it may be, giving must be done. Giving is not all about material things, you can give your time, talent, gifts and others to people an act of love.

Acts of love require a God kind of heart to do. You might find it difficult to display acts of love to some set of people but God is always ready to help you to love others.

There a common saying that ‘someone is unlovable or difficult to love’. It’s not the truth because despite our insincerity, God found us all loveable. Therefore, we must see it as a point of duty to love others genuinely and heartily.
